Helpline Volunteers
Most of what we do starts with our Helpline. Time required is 1/2 day per week. Calls are retrieved from the messages left during your shift and are returned within 24 hours.
Computer skills are needed to log basic info about calls on an online spreadsheet that is submitted once a month. Appeals are sent for the public that require receiving photos on your phone and emailing them, as well as emailing forms when needed.
Training is provided with on-going team support. Someone who would like a remote volunteer opportunity, works part-time or is retired fits best with this volunteer role.
Trapper Team
Trappers are urgently needed to prevent South San Antonio from being overwhelmed with litters of kittens. Experienced trappers are needed to trap for elderly and disabled. Trappers are paid $20 per cat to do TNR jobs from our Helpline calls. We have the resources, but really need more community involvement.
Live in south San Antonio, but cannot trap? Support us on July 10th at Willies on Zarzamora and a percentage of your receipt will go back to our organization! See Willie’s Spirit Night Info.
Fosters
Fosters, including one-time fosters, are crucial to whether or not a cat or kitten gets to safety and has a chance for a better quality of life. Adoptable cats & kittens from this kitten season have our current fosters at max capacity, resulting in a waitlist that will only grow during the summer. With our growing plea list, our Helpline volunteers have been asked to refer callers to other resources for placement. Please consider providing shelter so we don’t have to turn lovable cats away.
Love cats, but cannot foster? Please consider becoming a helpline volunteer or trapper in your area if you aren’t already.
Hablas espaƱol? We Need Your Help!
We need a bilingual volunteer to help us translate our flyers, TNR class handouts, and closed captions for our TNR class presentation. We have a lot of members in our community who would love to learn about TNR for cats in their neighborhoods, but they only speak Spanish. We need someone who is bilingual to step in and help with written translation so more people can use our resources.
Wednesday Clinic Volunteer
We need a volunteer for our Wednesday spay/neuter clinic for the AM shift. This is physical work involving weighing cats in traps. The 1st and 5th Wednesday AM shifts have the vacancies.
Feral Shelter Supply & Storage
Can’t commit to helpline, trap and do not want cats inside your home? Recycle, and be involved in a humane project at the same time when you contribute supply or storage to our Feral Shelters Program.
If you or someone you know works in a hospital, clinic or pharmacy that receives regular shipments of large, sturdy Styrofoam boxes, let us take them off their hands! Don’t throw away perfectly good boxes that can have second lives as shelters for homeless cats. We need these shelters for all harsh weather conditions and the heat is already merciless!
If you have Styrofoam you can donate or a warehouse, garage or large storeroom space you can share, provide your name and phone number by emailing Robert at: [email protected]
Please fill out our volunteer form if you can fill one of the above roles.
