SAFCC Helpline 210-877-9067

San Antonio, TX — May1, 2026 — The San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition (SAFCC) is proud to announce it has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Wayne Hollomon Price Foundation (WHPF) to support the purchase of a transport van for its Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.

WHPF’s gift will assist with the purchase and outfitting of a transport van with climate‑safe ventilation, secure and organized trap space, and safe loading features designed specifically for transport of up to 30 humane traps at a time.

The transport van will significantly increase the organization’s reach throughout the Greater San Antonio area, particularly in underserved, rural, and unincorporated parts of Bexar County where access to veterinary services may be limited.

“This grant from the Wayne Hollomon Price Foundation is a game changer for our TNR efforts,” said SAFCC President Amy Oakley. “Lack of transportation is one of the major barriers some cat colony caregivers face when trying to TNR outside cats. This van will allow us to meet that need and humanely spare thousands of kittens from being born into suffering.”

The vehicle will accommodate large-scale targeted TNR projects that are proven to be the most effective method for sterilizing large colonies in a single coordinated effort. Cats will always be returned to the exact location where they were trapped, a key principle of successful TNR that creates a controlled group of sterilized, vaccinated cats. The cats also receive a left eartip during surgery that serves as identification. Over time, the number of outside cats will naturally decline since they are not reproducing.

While the van will primarily support TNR efforts, it will also be used to transport cats for necessary medical care when qualified caregivers are unable to do so.

Since 2004, SAFCC has facilitated tens of thousands of spay/neuter surgeries, trained thousands of residents in TNR, and built a community-driven approach to community cat welfare across San Antonio and Bexar County.
