This year’s Global Cat Day theme is, Cats Are Community.
Our like-minded friends at Alley Cat Allies really put this theme in perspective for anyone who fails to acknowledge the presence cats have played in our lives for many years. Cats are not just animals. Whether they address the rodent issue in our neighborhoods, or are the internet famous cat you can’t wait to see on your feed, they are family, friends, neighbors, therapists, mascots, influencers, and so much more. Murzyk pictured to the right is living proof of a cat who is a part of his community.
Like most of our rescues, Murzyk was once a street cat until our organization rescued him several years ago. He was adopted by his two loving parents and moved to Ukraine. With the ongoing war in Ukraine, many people had to flee their homes and turn to each other for support during difficult times. Murzyk was no exception. When his community suffered, he also felt the impact. Murzyk wants to tell you about his story as a Texan who was once a shy street cat, and now a courageous feline who offers love and support to his community when they need him most.
Murzyk wants everyone to understand his impact as a member of his community, with his book, Where A Cat Belongs, written by his parents, Jacob Bourgeois and Polina Golubkova, and illustrated by Bogdana Bondar. Proceeds from his book will go back to support animal shelters in the Ukraine.
Murzyk hopes you purr-chase his book, donate to animal shelters & organizations, TNR, volunteer, encourage to adopt not shop, foster, rescue, and be the change you want to see!
