San Antonio, TX (January 14, 2026) — The San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition (SAFCC) longtime president, Sherry Derdak, has retired as president after 14 years of dedicated service. Under Sherry’s leadership, SAFCC has grown into a leading advocate for community cats, championing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs and educating thousands of residents on humane solutions for feral cat populations. She will continue as an advisor to the board and remain active in key programs to ensure a smooth transition. We are deeply grateful for Sherry’s tireless work, which has driven tremendous growth in services to the public and increased funding, leaving a lasting legacy.
“Sherry’s vision and commitment have transformed SAFCC into a vital resource for San Antonio,” said the SAFCC Board of Directors. “Her tireless work has saved countless lives and created a more compassionate community.”
As of January 1, 2026, Amy Oakley has assumed the role of SAFCC President. Amy brings more than two decades of experience in animal welfare, including Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), rescue, and advocacy. She plans to build on SAFCC’s strong foundation through continued collaboration and community engagement.
SAFCC also welcomes Christina Salazar as Treasurer. Christina brings 12 years of banking experience and a background in fraud prevention. Since joining SAFCC in 2022, she has supported multiple programs and fundraising efforts and remains actively involved in local animal welfare initiatives. The Board also extends its sincere thanks to outgoing Treasurer Kathy Jurgajtis for her dedicated service and contributions to the organization.
Together, this leadership transition reflects SAFCC’s continued commitment to its mission and to serving the San Antonio community.
