We asked our community to adopt not shop for PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week that took place March 18th – 24th. Our organization received an adoption prep grant of $5,000 from PetSmart Charities that helped cats rescue and prep cats like Eurydice and Orpheus for adoption in a short amount time. We met both cats through Animal Care Services who explained to us that their owner was discovered deceased in their home. Both of these cats were removed from their home and had no where to go. Our volunteers took them in and discovered that these 3 year old cats were already spayed and neutered, but declawed in their frontal paws. There was no way we were going to release them outdoors and we took a chance on placing them for adoption in the middle of National Adoption Week! Their temporary home was at our PetSmart location on Dove Creek and we shared their story with our community on social media. The right family came along and they went to a new home with 3 kids, and both a cat and dog already at home waiting to meet them.

Eurydice and Orpheus pictured with some of their new family members! Thank you to everyone who adopted, spread the word, and came out to support us. A big part of what we do is education and we took the opportunity to educate the kiddos of this family on why cats should not be declawed. We wanted them to understand that even though they are adopting two declawed cats who may seem completely fine, that they should never do this. Learn more about declawing here.
